Constructing the facade of St John’s Co Cathedral using compass and protractor

The lesson was carried out with Year 8 students level 5-7. The students were presented with some basic historical information about St John’s Co-Cathedral . First the shapes found on the facade were discussed. A sketch was shown to the students and the construction was tackled in steps. Finally, the construction was coloured by the students. This lesson is very useful to link Mathematics with History especially since Valletta is the European Capital of Culture 2018. This is a sample of the students’ work done in Ms Mangion’s Year 8 Maths class
